Friday, July 27, 2012

Today Metal Lathers & Reinforcing Ironworkers Local 46 announced their support for Brooklyn attorney for Andrew Gounardes, the Democratic candidate for State Senate in District 22.

"Local 46 only supports candidates who will fight for us in Albany--candidates like Andrew Gounardes who are on the right side of the major issues of the day," stated President John Skinner. "Whether it be education, economic fairness, transit issues or protecting worker's rights, I know Andrew Gounardes will be right there with us. That's why I urge all our members in District 22 to vote for Andrew Gounardes."

Metal Lathers & Reinforcing Ironworkers Local 46 has 1,500 members, with a large portion living in the 22nd Senate District in southern Brooklyn.

In reference to Gounardes' opponent, Martin Golden, crossing a union picket line in his own district just a year ago, Skinner said, "When I heard that, I hoped we would have an opponent we could all support. Fortunately, we found that candidate in Andrew Gounardes. I trust he would never cross our picket line."

Gounardes was honored to accept the endorsement of Local 46, "This means a lot to me. I know how hard the members of Local 46 work. They deserve a fair wage for their work and they deserve an ally in the State Senate who will work hard to protect their rights. I look forward to being that ally. Together we will fight for all the residents of southern Brooklyn and New York State."
