During Pride Month, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn Endorses Andrew Gounardes' State Senate Run
The seasoned, long-standing LGBTQ+ rights group stands with Gounardes.
Today, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn (LID) endorsed Andrew Gounardes’ run for State Senate in District 22. LID is a club that has a significant pull in the LGBTQ+ community, and in the Democratic party.
Both LID and Gounardes recognize the importance of the seat in District 22, as it may mean flipping the State Senate. Once that happens, Gounardes plans on working with LID and the LGBTQ+ community to pass protective, meaningful legislation, like GENDA.
“The State Senate race in the 22nd district in South Brooklyn is critical” said Scott Klein, President of Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn. “We need a Senator who will champion the rights of all constituents, not just the few. We need someone to bring the blue wave to Albany. That person is Andrew Gounardes, and we are proud to support him.”
LID endorsed Gounardes’ run for this very seat in 2012, and he is extremely glad to have this distinguished club supporting him once again, especially during Pride Month.
“This Pride Month, due to recent events, I’ve become very aware that the fight for LGBTQ+ equality is not over. I’m very honored that LID stands behind me, so that we can make change in Albany, flip the Senate, and pass real, progressive legislation that will level the playing field for all New Yorkers.”
This prestigious endorsement will no doubt propel Gounardes even further in this contentus race. Gounardes has already been endorsed by Bay Ridge Democrats, the local chapter of United Automobile Workers, the District 1 chapter of Communications Workers of America, Former Council Member Vincent Gentile, Assembly Member Peter Abbate, the Brooklyn Young Democrats, the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats, the Southern Brooklyn Democrats, the Stars & Stripes Democratic Club, the Chairperson of the Kings County Democrats Frank Seddio and Run for Something.
