By News 12 Staff |

Students and faculty from the City University of New York rallied together Sunday with state Sen. Andrew Gounardes for what they are calling the “New Deal for CUNY.”

Demonstrators are calling on the state to allocate over $250 million of its budget to the university in order to enable students to attend CUNY schools free of tuition.

They are also asking the state to establish a minimum ration of full-time faculty to students and establish a ratio of mental health counselors and academic advisors to students.

The state budget which will determine the amount of funds allocated to CUNY is set to be approved by April 1.
