STATEMENT FROM ANDREW GOUNARDES COMMENDING THE DYKER BEACH GOLF COURSE FOR REFUSING TO HOST SEBASTIAN GORKA AT REPUBLICAN GALA
Gorka has a neo-Nazi past and is a loud proponent of anti-Muslim rhetoric — and Brooklyn Republicans want him to headline their Spring Gala
(Brooklyn, NY) - Democratic candidate for State Senate Andrew Gounardes issued the following statement in response to the Dyker Beach Golf Course’s decision not to host the Republican event featuring Sebastian Gorka and Donald Trump, Jr.:
"This is unequivocally the right decision. Thank you to the Dyker Beach Golf Course for standing with the community and rejecting the inclusion of a divisive figure like Sebastian Gorka.
I can only hope that Marty Golden and the Brooklyn Republican Party wake up and recognize that their inclusion of Gorka was a slap in the face to every single person in our community. They should not try to reschedule the event for a different venue with the same guests. We’ll be watching to make sure they don’t — that’s for sure.
Thank you to everyone who signed our petition calling for immediate action on this. We showed that when we speak with one collective voice, we can push back against bigotry and hate."
